Crocutamodus

The beast rushed at us from the bushes, dust flying everywhere. All you can hear was its horrifying laughter and shrieking..... followed by the heavy sounds of its wings as it tried to lift itself from the ground.... so it may attack us from above. I couldn't get a clear look at it. I was too frightened, and it was too fast. Before I knew it, in all the commotion of the hunters yelling, and the creature giving them a literal run-around, I felt something hit the back of my knee. In all the confusion, the force had spun me around and I fell to the ground. The dusty earth knocking the wind out of my chest. The men all backed away into a confused circle, still yelling. And I finally got a look at this thing as it flapped it's wings and got a little air.

It seemed to looked like a hyena, but with a longer tail, dark underbelly, dark ridged hair like a mane, and great wings of a bat..... and those teeth, designed to drain the blood from it's poor victims, even the villagers. Oh...those poor villagers. They should have known better than to be away from the safety of numbers, and fire, at night.

It turned to go back at the men, all of whom were terrified... all it did was laugh and shriek at them. This beast, this mad beast with the burning eyes and sinister smile. It was not afraid of us, it never was..... us, the top of the food chain. Mighty hunters..... or were we?

Crocuta Crocuta(spotted hyena) + Desmodus Rotundus (common Vampire Bat) = THIS THING!


Basically a blood drinking, flying hyena with a different nose and set of teeth.... something that should NOT exist because.... it's just not fair.

These are only slightly bigger than normal spotted hyena.

And wow, A blood drinking beast, all snarly and what-have-you.... and yet I did not make this picture to be bloody or overly menacing at all.....hmm...... definitely different for me.

And the creature itself is done with a led pencil, on paper, and then scanned and colored/edited in sai and photoshop.
drew it up a few days ago.
