omg that WAS shocking.... there really should be done something about that.. here in Holland we also have bio-factory, which involves a lot of animal cruelty, and if somebody is cruel to an animal, he only has to pay like 700 euros, which is like 500 dollars....

You know, I really hate people using the argument, "How can they do that to HORSES! They're beautiful and graceful!"

Well, yes, that's true, but does that mean that less beautiful animals deserve the same kind of treatment? Horse slaughter is already banned in the United States, but we still slaughter pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, geese, fish, and SO ON! They aren't beautiful and graceful, so its ok? Most little girls don't have sparkley posters of them in their rooms like horses so its more okay to slaughter them in this way?

Horses are beautiful but that doesn't really matter here, its a living thing, any living thing suffering!

That said, I eat meat, and I think killing animals is ok... but its true, the fact that they were using multiple blows and the poor things still didn't die, and the stabbing.... those are just not adequate humane methods. =\

The sad thing is, because horse slaughter is banned in the US, unwanted horses are more likely to end up in Mexican slaughter houses like this one. We should just allow controlled humane slaughter domestically, IMO.

i think it's okay to slaughter SOME animals, like cows and pigs, i dont think it's ok to kill horses for meat though, because that's not what they are intended for, horses were intended and bred for manual labour, not food. Cows and pigs were bred for meat. Yes they aren't beautiful and graceful, but they still deserve to live a good life in good conditions with room to move and roam around with proper food, and as long as they are killed quickly and painlessly. Im an athiest but I kind of support the Muslim way of slaughtering animals for meat, by leading them into a secluded room and not stressing them out, and actually caring about the animal. As long as they die quickly and painlessly, Im ok with it, but this? This is just sick. Any animal deserves to live a long and happy life, and if it will be killed, t should be killed quickly, painlessly and humanely

I still don't think that's a very good argument. Horses, cows, and pigs, and ANY animal in the world didn't blink into existence for one purpose. The ancestors or cows evolved because they could avoid being eaten at least until they reproduced. Pigs are an even better example, because wild pigs still exist today, and let me tell you: they do NOT think they were "meant to be eaten" or "bred to be tasty." They evolved to eat almost anything (including meat), and to be tough enough to defend themselves. A wild boar can easily kill an unarmed human. Humans took the wild ancestors of pigs, cows, and horses, and bred cows to produce more meat and milk, bred pigs to produce more meat, and bred horses to be faster. Some people also bred horses for meat. It just so happens that in our culture, we perceive cows and pigs as food, and we perceive horses as companions. None of them wants to die, or is inherently meant for food any more than the other.

You're trying to apply an intrinsic value to these animals, when there is none. A pig is not intrinsically made for food, making it "okay" to eat them. A towel is not intrinsically something to dry you off. You can also use it as a blanket to keep warm, you can hang it on a wall for decoration, you can use it as a bag, or use its fabric to sew a quilt, you can fold it up as a pillow. In the same way a horse isn't intrinsically made for labor, or for riding, or for meat, or for leather, or as a pet, or to trim the lawn, or a status symbol, or any of those things. Just like a towel is a piece of cloth you can do many things with, a horse is an animal you can do many things with. Or not do anything with. On its own, a horse is a wild herd animal that eats grass and forb. A towel on its own is a piece of material that sits and does nothing. There is nothing inherent about an animal, or an object. No set purpose.

Pigs and cows can be many things other than food, I discredit the argument "they were intended for slaughter."

UHHHHHH.... that said, I agree with everything you said there past the second sentence :XD: ^^; :faint:

weellll, nowadays cows and pigs and sheep are bred for slaughter, it's the reason they were bred, and horses were originally bred for labour but now are bred as pets, i disagree with your point that no animal is intended for slaughter, because thats why places like Macdonalds breed thousands of cows per year and feed them genetically modified food to make them gain weight. I believe that nowadays some animals are bred for food, and others are not. For example, it is illegal to kill horses for food in the UK and the US, but not illegal to slaughter pigs and cows. The reason for this is that horses are viewed as labour animals, and cows/pigs are viewed as animals for meat. Horse meat is pointless as they are killed brutally, and no one bothers to spare a thought for the suffering they feel as they are murdered. This applies with cows and pigs most of the time. Anyway, I'm entitled to my opinion, and you to yours, as long as it is within a limit.
