we depend on animals for EVERYTHING we dooooooooooooo
yet we disrespect them on a level of them not even being LIVING CONSCIOUS BEINGS.
we let nothing live peacefully
or die with grace
...
Well, yes, that's true, but does that mean that less beautiful animals deserve the same kind of treatment? Horse slaughter is already banned in the United States, but we still slaughter pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, geese, fish, and SO ON! They aren't beautiful and graceful, so its ok? Most little girls don't have sparkley posters of them in their rooms like horses so its more okay to slaughter them in this way?
Horses are beautiful but that doesn't really matter here, its a living thing, any living thing suffering!
That said, I eat meat, and I think killing animals is ok... but its true, the fact that they were using multiple blows and the poor things still didn't die, and the stabbing.... those are just not adequate humane methods. =\
The sad thing is, because horse slaughter is banned in the US, unwanted horses are more likely to end up in Mexican slaughter houses like this one. We should just allow controlled humane slaughter domestically, IMO.
You're trying to apply an intrinsic value to these animals, when there is none. A pig is not intrinsically made for food, making it "okay" to eat them. A towel is not intrinsically something to dry you off. You can also use it as a blanket to keep warm, you can hang it on a wall for decoration, you can use it as a bag, or use its fabric to sew a quilt, you can fold it up as a pillow. In the same way a horse isn't intrinsically made for labor, or for riding, or for meat, or for leather, or as a pet, or to trim the lawn, or a status symbol, or any of those things. Just like a towel is a piece of cloth you can do many things with, a horse is an animal you can do many things with. Or not do anything with. On its own, a horse is a wild herd animal that eats grass and forb. A towel on its own is a piece of material that sits and does nothing. There is nothing inherent about an animal, or an object. No set purpose.
Pigs and cows can be many things other than food, I discredit the argument "they were intended for slaughter."
UHHHHHH.... that said, I agree with everything you said there past the second sentence
