26 deviants said i think its sad, because if they're only known for one thing, and the other things arent as appreciated....as if the people don't care about the variaty, so it makes them feel like their other work is "less" when itts just as great.

20 deviants said i think it just means they're good at drawing/doing what they draw/do. and they shouldn't complain about it.

14 deviants said i see the type casting all too much and think it is a real shame. cuz it sucks to be known for just ONE thing, when you're soo good at several other things.

not that I have anywhere near the fanbase of you and Coulz (it's like comparing a Chihuahua to Jupiter XD), but I'm rather typecasted as a TLK artist too. even the people at school expect me to be drawing TLK all the time, and are usually surprised when I pull out something and start working on it that's not TLK...like a spider beastie, my lizard character Ziggy, a horse, people, etc....and that one perverted request for a friend XD but I guess they had a right to be surprised there lol.

in my case, it's my own fault really. TLKFAA was the only art site I knew of for awhile there, so I focused more on trying to draw TLK-style and let my other drawing interests loose practice (I'm currently working on fixing that) so I could upload art there.

but I really don't think it's right to typecast. besides, I really love your non-TLK work! I really enjoy the different things people can come up with and how much variety they can manage to capture. and you and DJ Coulz both blow my mind with drawing people (perhaps cause I suck so badly), and I really enjoy seeing it as well as all the rest.

honestly, I think it's truly better to have a variety. it's the spice of life, right? it's understandable to do the same sorta stuff and get great at it, but to accomplish excellent pieces in various styles, methods, and subject matter shows a different level of greatness. not everyone can do that.

anyways....yeah XD

Not that I'm at ALL a "known" artist (nor terribly great yet... I still have quite a bit of improving to do), but I can still relate on some level, and really do not like typecasting.

I used to be very much into anthro art (and I still am, I just don't post too much anymore), so I had a fair few watchers for that sort of stuff. Then I started getting into drawing my "true love" of mostly 70's and 80's hard rock/metal bands, which was something pretty much everyone I had watching me before wasn't into, and they got upset.

Now I have a new base of watchers who are all into what I draw now.

Though still with them... a lot of them will get upset when I draw something different (or a band they don't like). Because they don't get it or just aren't interested.

I think typecasting wouldn't bother me so much if people didn't make such a big deal out of it!! But it's like, whenever an artist who IS typecast tries something different, it's either ignored or put down for being something different. It's sad, is what it is. If people are watching you, even if it's for one specific thing, they should be able to accept even they submissions that are DIFFERENT.

(Kind of like when band members go off and do solo work, and people get upset that it doesn't sound JUST LIKE the original band they were in.)

People need to understand that good artists excel in many different areas of art (and many excel in multiple art forms, or at least enjoy them) and may enjoy drawing one thing a lot, but that's NOT the only thing they're good at or do. If an artist really IS only drawing/painting one thing and one thing alone, I think it's time they expand their horizons a bit and try something new.

Personally, I love your TLK fanart and TLK-style art, but I also really love seeing your other art, too! Especially the darker sorts of stuff (I love your way of drawing zombies! Though zombies have always fascinated me). It's different and interesting to me, personally, so I do hope to see more of it in the future. :) Though I can understand (on a smaller scale) how you're feeling with being typecast.

Haha, yeeaahhhhh.... I wish I were known for like, anything. :P

Richard O'Brien has said that Rocky Horror has overshadowed his entire career... but that's okay, because its enough to know he was part of something that big in the first place, and he's proud of that.

I don't think its a waste of time for you to upload other stuff though! If I don't like it or have nothing to say, maybe I wont comment or fav, but its not like I'm gonna go, "OMGGG DJ88 is liek TOTALLY un-hip now! SHHHUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN!!!!!" and the more non-TLK stuff you post, more people are going to start watching you for your non-TLK stuff!

Personally, of that list, I like zombies, monsters, gore, horses, dragons, and sharks! Humans are meeehhhh. :P
