It's tragic... Suicide rate in Japan is awfully high, to this day. ...but couldn't you just have written a journal? I don't really see the point of this being a poll. I mean, it's a serious topic, but not flaming urgent so it must be instant-messaged to everyone... or am I seeing that wrong?
well i'd say a full on journal about this would be an even bigger deal than this being featured in a poll. polls are easier deleted and or ignored than a journal.
if anyone doesnt want to deal with it im sure they'd just push the ex/delete button to get rid of it. i usually use polls to showcase all sorts of video links.
wow. reading about this I think Japan and US aren't to different when it comes to work ethic, and always trying to succeed (maybe in the US it depends more on ones up bringing). BUt ya, wow. Times are cruel. We need more people to step back and actually address how people are going about their lives, like that former police officer. thank you for ppl like him!
Well, if you consider that depression is rising in the US as well.... :\
I mean, yes I value working hard and all that, but there's a limit too. On the other hand my employers expect the impossible to near-impossible, and when more employers start getting controlling and you run out of places to escape to, that hamster in a wheel feeling gets pretty bad no matter what your upbringing, if you want to continue being able to eat and have a home. x.x;
Honestly I think what most need now, is to know there is someone out there who is willing to lend a hand. Something to get out of the helpless feeling of not being able to change your situation.
I'll be honest, this just made me feel really sad. I doubt that building a fence or a watch tower would really change anything, they'd find other ways to kill themselves. However, if there were more people like Shige, then maybe they could stop this from happening so often.
At first I thought this was going to be about Aokigahara, the forest at the base of Mt. Fuji where a lot of people go to commit suicide (second most popular place in the world for suicides after the Golden Gate Bridge).
I'm wondering why so many people in Japan are that depressed O__o
Their culture is all about succeding in your career, going to good schools and having a good education. It pretty much said that in the video. They expect a lot from themselves and if they fail, they feel like their life value is lost along with their pride. It's a very achievement and work based society where you are expected to out-do yourself all the time.
