Okay on a disscussion board on another site. Someone asked "Simba VS Kovu. who is better/do you like more?" which do you agree with???
56 deviants saidSimba is a more deserving universal character, and its a shame that he became soo. "un simba like" in the second film.
33 deviants saidSimba is all in all just a better character, with a better story. and Kovu was just made for the younger "i don't care im a rebel blah blah blah" audience from the 90s.
30 deviants saidSimba is a more complex character who goes through more growth and obsticles in his story.
29 deviants saidKovu is hot
21 deviants saidKovu is a more complex character and goes through more growth in his story.
18 deviants saidKovu is nothing but a "rebel without a cause" very slapped together character that has no real meaning except to stand there and look like a "Scarified" Simba. with a "super cool" hair do.
10 deviants saidfuck kovu. hes stupid. he betrayed his whole life/beliefs and family over the course of a few days because he sees a hot girl, that kind of "death" training just doesnt go away like "that". plus his bro was killed right infront of him (accident ofcourse b
Kovu is a reverse-Simba Simbas whole problem is that he needs to surmount his fear of responsibility and live up to what his parents and friends want him to do. Kovu needs to surmount the hate his mother taught him and NOT live up to what they expect of him. Plus it makes up for how people were complaining in the first movie, "Oh, of course the BLACK lion is evil! I CALL RACISM!"
As far as Kovu being a slapped together character,... Ill admit hes much more cliché than Simba, and overcomes his problem a lot faster (several years in a Jungle vs two days with a hot girl and a lifestyle that revolves around fun and love, rather than hate and work), but there are some who would say that the entire Lion King movie was a thrown together wad of hack! Its just Hamlet with lions! or, more legitimately, Its just a cheap Kimba knockoff!
In that case, all of Simbas character developmentoh no my father died then he appeared in a cloud and told me to fulfill my destiny, is taken from Kimba! Therefore, SIMBA is the thrown-together unoriginal knockoff character, and Kovu, cliché and rebel-without-a-cause as he may be, is at least an *original* Disney character.
But I guess it could also come down to this: TLK was Hamlet, TLK2 was Romeo & Juliet. Deal with it. Romeo wasn't that well-developed either yet everyone loooooves Shakespeare
